Mass Effect 1 Chohe Map: Location and Mission Guide

In the original Mass Effect, exploring uncharted worlds offers players access to unique assignments, valuable collectibles, and crucial alignment points. One notable destination is Chohe, a moon located within the Cacus system of the Hades Gamma cluster. Navigating Chohe requires players to understand both its terrain map and the specific mechanics required to complete its high-stakes mission.
How to Unlock and Locate Chohe
Chohe is not immediately relevant to the main storyline, as access to its primary mission depends on Commander Shepard's morality standing. Players must reach an 80% Paragon threshold, or 90% if Renegade was maxed first, to receive a transmission from Admiral Hackett regarding UNC: Besieged Base. Once unlocked, set course through the galaxy map to the Hades Gamma cluster and enter the Cacus system.
Navigating the Chohe Surface Map
Upon landing on Chohe, players will find a rugged landscape that requires careful driving in the Mako. The central objective is the Sirta Foundation science base, which lies south-southeast from your initial landing zone. Drivers will encounter minimal resistance outside, as no enemy turrets or patrols guard the exterior of the facility. Beyond the main base, the moon also features points of interest containing salvage probes and Asari writings for dedicated completionists.
Tactical Approach for UNC: Besieged Base
Inside the facility, biotic terrorists hold six Sirta Foundation scientists hostage. Because the terrorists use area-of-effect biotic powers, squad control is critical to prevent accidental civilian casualties. Players should consider setting squad power usage to defense only and drawing enemy fire into the entry corridor away from the hostages. Disabling indiscriminate abilities ensures all hostages survive, yielding the maximum Paragon reward upon completion.
Looting and Mission Rewards
After clearing the biotic threats, thoroughly check the facility rooms before returning to the Normandy. The north, southeast, and southwest rooms contain medical kits, locked crates requiring decryption, and salvageable malfunctioning objects. Communicating with Admiral Hackett via the galaxy map completes the assignment. Saving all six scientists awards 24 Paragon points, while losing scientists drastically reduces the reward or grants Renegade points.
